Подтема: Американский английский.
Цель: Повторить и активизировать лексический материал темы.
Расширять словарный запас учащихся.
Повторить и обобщить лексико-грамматический материал темы «The English Language».
Развивать умение аудирования.
Продолжать формировать навыки устной речи.
Ознакомить учащихся с особенностями американского варианта английского языка.
Воспитывать интерес к изучению английского языка.
Оборудование: Учебник, рабочая тетрадь, стихотворение «Fall Colours» (HO).

Greeting and Aim
1. Приветствие и сообщение темы и цели урока.
Т: Good morning, pupils! Our topic today is «American English». By the end of the lesson you will be able to see some differences between the two variants of English.
Warming up
2. Введение в иноязычную атмосферу.
Чтение стихотворения.
Т: Let us read the poem «Fall Colours». I think after reading it you'll be able to tell me what the word fall mean.
Учитель предлагает учащимся самостоятельно прочитать стихотворение, затем декламирует его, ученики хором повторяют.

Fall colours. Look at the trees.
Red and gold autumn leaves.
Leaves falling, falling down,

Т: So, you understand that the words and fall autumn mean the same. The British people call this beautiful season autumn and Americans - fall.

T: Please show me your letters to the «English Bridge». Who wants to read his or her letter? Pupils, listen to your classmates’ letters and express your opinion. Do you remember our Mind-Map of«Likes and Dislikes» on page 26? Use it when answering.
Три-четыре ученика читают свои письма. Учитель и остальные класса следят за правильностью грамматического строения предложения и оценивают их работу.

2. Активизация лексико-грамматического материала по теме «The English Language».
1) РЖД, упр. 1 (с. 34).
Ученики по очереди читают подсказки и отгадывают названия англоязычных стран.
2) РЖД, упр. 2 (с. 34).
Ученики формулируют и записывают вопросы. Учитель предлагает двум ученикам расширить эти предложения.

Pre-Listening Activity. Этап подготовки к аудированию.

Т: You are going to listen to one American boy's story. After the first listening you'll have to answer the questions of exercise 1 on page 48. Look at them now.
Ученики самостоятельно читают вопросы упражнения.
2) While-Listening Activity. Этап аудирования.
Учащиеся слушают текст в аудио-записи или с голоса учителя. После первого прослушивания они выполняют упр. 1 (с. 48): цепочкой отвечают на представленные вопросы.

My name's Bob. Pm American. It's cool to learn about Ukraine and Russian kids. I found that we studied the things like you. We learn Spanish at school. There are many people from Latin America in my country like my friend Miguel.
You're right that American English is a bit different from British English. I mean it is sometimes different in spelling, too. Sometimes you use different words to name the same things, for example, Englishmen say a flat when Americans name it an apartment. British holiday is American vacation. In Britain they phone a friend and in America they call a friend. British lorry turns into a truck in America. But don't worry, it's not a big problem. Most English is still the same all over the world.

После второго прослушивания текста учащиеся записывают слова в два столбика.

Учитель обращает внимание учащихся на разницу в написании слов в Великобритании и Америке.
Т: Bob mentioned some differences in spelling. Here are some of them. The British write theatre, metre. And the Americans write theater and meter. British program loses me and becomes program in America. When you see the words color, favorite, neighbor you must know that there is no mistake. It is the American way of the writing colour, favourite, neighbour. The word travelling is written with one letter I in American English.
