e) Text

“He will like it”

Mark Twain was once invited by a friend to go to the opera. His friend was very rich. He and his wife had their own box at the opera. During the opera the friend's wife talked all the time. She talked rather loudly. She talked so much that it was often difficult for Mark Twain to listen to the opera.

Toward the end of the opera she turned to Mark Twain and said, “Oh, my dear Mark Twain, I do want you to be with us again next Friday night. I am sure you will like it. The opera will be “Carmen”.

“Thank you very much”, said Mark Twain, “that will be fine, I have never heard youin “Carmen”.

“The Best Proof”

A young and energetic man was complimenting a famous actress on her acting Viola in shakespeare's comedy “The Twelfth Night”.

“But”, says the actress modestly, “I think that an actress acting Viola should be young and beautiful”.

“No, madam, I can't agree with you”, says the young man, “for you yourself are the best proof that one can be neither young nor beautiful and still be a great success in the part of Viola”.

“A Clever Reply”

A famous producer, introducing his friend, a well-known comic actor to a film star, “Madame, this is Mr. Black who is really not such a fool us he looks”.

“That's true, Madam”, said the comedian, “and it is a principal difference between my friend and me”.
